Raw Food: The Basics
Everything you need to know to get started, and almost nothing you don’t.
If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already suspected that feeding your dog a bowl of ultraprocessed brown biscuits every day for its entire life might not be the best idea. Good. That instinct is sound. The question now is: what do you actually do instead?
The answer is simpler than the internet would have you believe. I have a course called Raw Food: The Basics at www.holisticvet.co.uk that goes into much more detail, but this article will give you everything you need to get started.
What is raw feeding?
Raw feeding means giving your dog real food. Meat, bone, and organs, served raw, along with some lightly steamed blended vegetables, a marine oil, and a scattering of what I call NHSS: nuts, herbs, seeds, and spices. It is how dogs and their ancestors have eaten for millions of years before someone invented the pellet. It requires a freezer, a bit of common sense, and about five minutes a day.
